SENSE OF THE BOARD RESOLUTION CONGRATULATING THE STUDENTS
AT SCOFIELD MAGNET MIDDLE SCHOOL ON THEIR OUTSTANDING ACCOMPLISHMENTS AT THE 4TH CONNECTICUT FIRST LEGO LEAGUE ROBOTICS COMPETION, 2002 CITY SIGHTS CHALLENGE
WHEREAS, the 2002 City Sights Challenge explores the obstacles and restrictions that urban planners face in order to provide basic services such as housing, clean water, a safe environment, medical assistance, sustainable energy and mass transportation and communication venues to the inhabitants of a city by considering variables such as population, finite land and water resources in the exploration of effective solutions; and
WHEREAS, Eighth Graders Richard Zelinsky, Max von Stein, Chris Knebel, Neil Mehra; Seventh Graders Asher von Stein, Bharat Arora, Dara Gold; and Sixth Graders Dina Naiem, Mallika Winsor and Adham Naiem were members of the S.M.A.R.T. (Scofield Magnet Applied Robotics Technology) Team, under the direction of Head Coach, James Forde, Information Technology teacher; and
WHEREAS, the S.M.A.R.T. Team was awarded a First Place trophy for Creativity, which recognizes the team with the most innovative solutions in Robot design, “Big Ben” and programming, Research Question and Presentation, and Booth Set up; and
WHEREAS, the S.M.A.R.T. Team was awarded a Second Place trophy for Research on the City of London, which recognizes a team’s quality of research, presentation, and demonstration of actual knowledge and in-depth understanding of various scientific disciplines with the project; and
WHEREAS, the S.M.A.R.T. Team was awarded the Judges Award trophy, which recognizes the team that profoundly sets them apart in a unique way from the other fifty teams for overall excellence, team attitude, enthusiasm and performance.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the 26th Stamford Board of Representatives proudly goes on official record congratulating Scofield Magnet Applied Robotics Technology Team #76 for winning three trophies in this highly competitive event.
